Quality Education (SDG 4) is one of the 17 interrelated goals adopted by the United Nations for attaining sustainable development by 2030. SDG 4 aims to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.” According to a UN estimate (United Nations 2017), India is projected to be the world’s most populous country with a population of 1.5 billion by 2030. To cater to the large size of the population, India has also evolved one of the largest higher education systems in the world. Under the impact of the pandemic and isolation, the country has an uphill task to meet the targets with socioeconomic disparities that are ameliorating only slowly. Several online learning platforms already exist. However, these platforms do not form the part of mainstream education as yet. The present paper aims to identify the impact areas and missing dimensions of governance and technological change in the transformation process.
