Unlike the standard oral presentations of this nature, this presentation will be prepared as reflections depending on what the presenter will learn from other participants during the conference; this means that there will be no written presentation prepared in advance. The presentation will aim to outline several points regarding the role of the United Nations (UN) in the global pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The presentation will emphasise the significance of avoiding generalisations and focus on targeted evaluations when addressing development areas – such a political issue. This approach ensures that strategies are tailored to the unique needs and capabilities of different regions, enhancing the effectiveness of interventions. The presentation will also highlight the UN’s commitment to inclusivity, stressing that the organisations recognise the diverse capacities of countries worldwide. For example, developing countries may contribute 2% towards global efforts, while more developed nations can shoulder a larger share. This differentiated contribution model reflects the UN’s understanding that while countries have varying resources and capabilities, every nation’s participation is vital. This approach exemplifies the UN’s generosity and commitment to bringing the entire world together to work towards common goals, regardless of economic status. Furthermore, the presentation will also explore how the UN has made available various publications and resources that anyone - be it individuals, organisations, or academic institutions - can access to support these global efforts. The UN serves as a solid foundation, providing a platform where all stakeholders can collaborate, share their expertise, and contribute to fulfilling the SDGs. It is a hub where global efforts converge, ensuring that everyone can participate and make a meaningful impact. The presentation will conclude by arguing that the UN not only facilitates global co-operation by recognising and accommodating the different capacities of nations but also provides the resources and platforms needed for effective collaboration. It invites everyone - individuals, organisations, and universities alike - to join in this collective endeavour, making the achievement of the SDGs a truly global mission.
