Abstract: Energy is vital in our daily lives as it is a basic human need specially in this digital era. Energy growth from renewable sources is directly connected to well-being and prosperity across the globe. The link between green energy and sustainable development is clear; renewable energy is central to improved social and economic well-being and is indispensable to most industrial wealth generation. Moreover, it is key for alleviating poverty, improving human welfare, and tackling climate change. As a result, Africa's power sector must utilize its renewable resources and exploit its potential in order to meet the needs of a growing population in a socially equitable, commercially viable, and environmentally sustainable manner. This talk addresses Africa's renewable energy potential, opportunities and challenges.
