Abstract
This tribute honours Professor Ronald McQuaid for his exceptional contribution to scholarship, mentorship, and sustainable development across national and disciplinary boundaries. Renowned for his work in employment studies, labour markets, public policy, transport, sustainability, and regional development, he is distinguished not only as a leading scholar but also as an exceptional mentor whose influence extends beyond academia. Through intellectual guidance, collaborative research, and capacity-building initiatives, he has nurtured scholars and practitioners committed to addressing complex socioeconomic challenges.
Drawing on my experience as his PhD student, mentee, collaborator, and colleague, this reflection highlights his profound impact on my academic and professional growth. His mentorship is characterized by intellectual rigour, humility, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, enabling my progression from Assistant Lecturer to Senior Lecturer, as well as a consultant engaged in national and international development work.
Through research collaborations, publications, supervision, and global scholarly engagement, Professor McQuaid demonstrates that mentorship is a powerful catalyst for knowledge creation, professional development, and sustainable development beyond borders.
