Abstract: Small Island Developing States (SIDS) are among the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world, facing rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and increasing threats to food and water security. Despite contributing minimally to global emissions, these regions bear a disproportionate burden of climate change. In this presentation, I highlight the vital role youth play in transforming this crisis into a catalyst for sustainable, community-led action. Drawing on my experience at the Caribbean Development Bank and the lived realities of SIDS, I will explore how local youth are not only first responders during disasters but also emerging leaders in climate innovation, adaptation, and resilience. I will showcase real-world examples of youth-led climate solutions from the Caribbean and Pacific and emphasize the urgent need for institutional reforms, targeted funding, and inclusive policy frameworks to unlock the full potential of youth in SIDS. This presentation argues that sustainable development must start locally and that youth in SIDS are ready to lead the way.
