Purpose: The study aims to examine how human-artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration contributes to the transformation of sustainable healthcare systems. The research delves into the socio-technical, ethical, and governance landscape that influences the adoption of AI in health systems.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The study uses a systematic literature review (SLR) methodology based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) principles. A total of 35 eligible studies from 2016 to 2026 were qualitatively analysed by applying Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) criteria for quality assessment and thematic frequency analysis.
Findings: The findings indicate that the sustainable transformation of healthcare systems is not only reliant on the autonomous capabilities of AI but also on human-AI collaboration mediated by governance.
Originality/Value: The study adds value to the existing healthcare AI literature by proposing a Governance-Mediated Human-AI Collaboration Framework that brings together fragmented discussions on explainability, trust in AI, AI governance, organisational resilience and sustainability in a single socio-technical model.
