Abstract: This first chapter of the book aims to provide an overview of the key factors in knowledge and innovation management processes that are influencing and are influenced by the business environment in Africa. The chapter highlights the problematic of achieving a successful and sustainable business in Africa. It therefore outlines the various study programmes of cutting-edge research within different thematic areas such as innovation; entrepreneurship; education; capacity building; human capital; investment; and banking and finance. Finally, the chapter provides an executive summary of all the chapters included in the book.
