Abstract: Different perspectives regarding globalisation and internationalisation are outlined with a view to developing a theoretical framework for examining these concepts. On assessing these competing claims, it is suggested that a political
economy approach aids our understanding of the processes at work and best captures the complexities and contradictions in the global economy.
