UN International Day for Disaster Reduction: Building Youth Leadership

Watch Summary Video In celebration of the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) 13th of October 2016 the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD),the Arab Urban Development Institute and the UN Major Group for Children and Youth Young Scientists Platform on DRR are working together to meaningful and self-led youth-engagement of culture of risk-awareness in the developing countries. This one day event will introduce the burdens faced on young people in regards to natural and manmade disasters, stressing that these burdens pose huge challenges for the youth and more importantly undermine development efforts in all sectors of social, economic, cultural and environmental sustainability. The unique role and the value youth can play (innovators, scientists, inter-cultural ambassadors, peer-to-peer trainers, community mobilizers and advocates for vulnerable people) will be empowered to implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, reduce mortality rates and improve resilience in the lead up to World Conference for DRR and beyond.
