Overview of the Role of Gum Arabic in South Sudan after Sudan War

Abstract: The presentation briefly explains the role of gum Arabic in South Sudan following the conflict in Sudan, highlighting opportunities and challenges facing the sector. South Sudan great gum Arabic potential has seen increased global recognition in the last few years as a potential supplier. In the last 2 years, many international buyers have taken an interest in investing and developing the gum Arabic sector. This was driven by the crisis in Sudan. Following the war, a lot of traders and exporters fleeing from Sudan have found opportunities and partnered with South Sudanese farmers and traders sparking new economic opportunities for the country. However, challenges such as low awareness from local farmers, transit issues, and logistical constraints hindered growth. At the end of the presentation, solutions to challenges are suggested.
