Educating for Impact: Aligning India’s Higher Education with Global Sustainability Goals, Dr Nishu Ayedee

Purpose: Higher Education is the backbone of the country’s future. It is important to align higher education system with United Nations SDGs. This paper focuses on finding the pathways for promoting SDGs into higher education and transforming the approach of learning.
Methodology: The paper is based on systematic literature review in which articles, case studies, news reports and policy frameworks within the duration of 2015-2025 have been considered. A thematic synthesis identifies key trends, challenges, and opportunities for integrating SDGs across curricula and governance structures.
Findings: The findings suggest the Indian Universities are still lacking in sustainability approach. The university needs to understand impactful SDG integration. The SDG integration helps the universities in faculty development, research commitment, rankings and increasing the institutional capacity.
Research Limitations: The study draws exclusively from secondary data, limiting empirical generalizability.
Original Value: This paper bridges the gap between policy intent and practice, offering a framework for embedding sustainability in higher education governance and pedagogy.
Practical Implications: Findings guide policymakers and educators in aligning curricula and institutional strategies with global sustainability imperatives.
