I was truly honoured to be asked to speak at this 20th Anniversary and 21st Annual International Conference of the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD). This conference marks a crucial milestone in our collective journey towards achieving the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is an opportunity for us to explore the intricate relationship between human capital, knowledge, abilities, and skills, and the transformative power of digital technologies in fostering economic growth and sustainable development.
The role of human capital cannot be overstated. It is the driving force behind the innovation process, paving the way for economic growth and sustainable development. In an increasingly digital era, where the world is shaped by technological advancements, our knowledge, abilities, and skills are the catalysts for change. They empower us to bridge the gap between the aspirations enshrined in the SDGs and the realities we face.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As most of us have witnessed, the 2023 SDG Summit that took place in September 2023 in New York has sent us a vital plea; we all need to accelerate our efforts in the next seven years should we want to achieve the 2030 Agenda. I urge all of us to use this conference as a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas that can pave the way for a brighter and more sustainable future. Let us work together to propel ourselves towards a world where the SDGs are not just aspirations, but concrete realities.
