Purpose: This chapter aims to examine the impacts of Sudan's civil war from 2023 to 2025 on health services and the operations of nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) within the country.
Design/Methodology/Approach: The chapter has employed qualitative methods, including an analysis of secondary data, Key informant interviews, a review of literature, humanitarian reports, and conferences’ proceedings.
Findings: The findings identify disruptions to the health system and significant setbacks faced by NGOs in their missions.
Originality/value: The chapter offers a comprehensive analysis of health service disruptions and NGO challenges during the recent Sudanese conflict, proposing recovery strategies that are valuable for rebuilding Sudan's health system. All information and recommendations are based on the authors' first-hand experience and the outcomes of their direct involvement in discussions and interventions before and during the war.
Research Limitations/Implications: The ongoing conflict and its rapidly evolving nature may limit access to data, necessitating frequent updates to the findings.
Practical Implications: The chapter proposes practical recommendations for rebuilding and strengthening Sudan’s healthcare system during the post-conflict period. It informs policymakers, NGOs, and international stakeholders about the implementation of recovery measures and sustainable health services that align with the strategies of other sectors and the national and regional context.
