Dental journey in Sudan over half a century: challenges and proposed solutions, Dr Eman Kheir

Purpose: During the last 50 years, dentistry changed in Sudan. Establishing numerous dental faculties and programs dramatically increases the number of graduates. This chapter aims to describe the evolution of dental education in Sudan over half a century, illustrate the effects on oral health, identify the challenges, and propose practical solutions.

Design: In this research, we searched PubMed, Pub, and Science Direct databases for relevant literature. Our search included the terms ‘Dentistry in Sudan ‘, and’ Dental education in developing countries. We retrieved articles and reports published in English from 1975 through February 2025.

Findings: Sudan as a developing country encountered problems in dentistry, during study such as problems with training, educators, and research, and challenges that continue after graduation, employment, and practice.

Value of the study: The study yields insights into dental education in Sudan, challenges, and possible solutions.
